Westchester County is located in the U.S. state of New York. It is the seventh most populated county in New York and the most populated north of New York City. Established in 1683, Westchester was named after the city of Chester, England. The county seat is the city of White Plains.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 500 square miles (1,300 km²), of which 430 square miles (1,100 km²) is land and 69 square miles (180 km²) (14%) is water.

As of 2010, there were 949,113 residents at an average density of 807 per square mile (312/km²).
